GCP Sparks Economic Vitality in NEO

Joe Roman, president and chief executive officer of Greater Cleveland Partnership said, “We wanted to partner with 10,000 Little (micro) Ideas to bring, Cleveland, this exciting and fun afternoon of activities representing all the projects that are building positive momentum in Cleveland.  10,000 is an organization of enthusiastic and committed grassroots leaders who are working to strengthen this region.   This event provides a great opportunity for us to showcase, the business community’s economic development initiatives, and we in turn, can hear from you about your 10,000 Visions of Cleveland.”

Greater Cleveland Partnership

Greater Cleveland Partnership pursues seven strategies to help improve the region’s economy:

Advocate with One Voice. Greater Cleveland Partnership is the voice of business in Cleveland City Hall, Columbus and Washington, D.C.  GCP advocacy actively supports legislation that will help improve the region’s business climate and create jobs.  Successes include saving more than 1,100 DFAS jobs in downtown Cleveland, the Flats East Bank project and state tax reform.

Advance Small Business Success. COSE (the Council of Smaller Enterprises) is the GCP’s small business partner.  COSE assists its more than 17,000 small business members as they grow and create jobs.

Accelerate Economic Inclusion. The Commission on Economic Inclusion, a program of the GCP, works to ensure that minorities more fully participate in and benefit from the region’s economic development.

Build a High-Impact, Sustainable Economic Development System. The GCP has created a system compose of five external partner organizations—BioEnterprise, JumpStart, MAGNET, NorTech and Team NEO along with the Cleveland Plus Marketing Alliance and the GCP Business Development Team to grow the region’s capability to create jobs.

Chance the Face of Cleveland. The GCP focuses on major physical development projects that will help transform the city’s economy.  Examples include East 4th Street, Avenue District, and Medical Mart/Convention Center.

Strengthen Global Connections. The global competitiveness of the region and its companies is tied to the having world-class physical and human capital assets to increase commerce with the rest of the world.  The GCP is working with Cleveland Cuyahoga County Port Authority, Cleveland Airport System and others to make Cleveland accessible by air, by water and by land.

Initiate a Demand-driven Talent System.  The availability of an educated and skilled workforce is essential to fueling economic growth.  The GCP is helping the region create a system that is responsive to the needs of employers.
